After a lot of searching, it looks like Disney is quickly approaching their decision on who will be playing a young Han Solo. If you're confused at who you're looking at you might not be alone but allow me to give you a little bit of info on who's up for the coveted role. First is Alden Ehrenreich who stole the show in the latest Coen brother's film, Hail, Caesar as the western actor Hobbie Doyle. He also starred in a handful of indie flicks like the horror movie Stoker, Blue Jasmine and 2013's Beautiful Creatures which didn't manage to take off at the box offices as expected. In the center if Transformers: Age of Extinction's Jack Reynor. The relatively new actor is scheduled to return for the next Transformers film as well. The last, over to the right, is Taron Egerton, star of The Kingsmen as well as the 80s sports biopic Eddie The Eagle and is probably the most recognizable of the three. While Egerton is probably the most in demand actor, Ehrenreich's performance was nothing short of spectacular in Hail, Caesar and is certainly not one to be looked over. While we're all aware that the Star Wars projects are about as air tight when it comes to secrets as the Marvel franchise films, we shouldn't rule out some of the names we've heard in circulation but this is the current rumor as of right now.
Photo credit: The Hollywood Reporter Episode 7 is still making it's impressive run in theaters across the globe and all eyes are on the sequel but it looks like a shakeup in scheduling sent the internet into a frenzy this week when Disney announced a delay for Star Wars episode 8. The upcoming sequel, led by new director Rian Johnson, has been pushed back from it's original release date of May 26th, 2017 to December 15th, 2017. While not a big move, it seems like the best one considering how successful The Force Awakens has been over the holiday season obliterating records and the first of a series of spin off films, Star Wars: Rogue One is also set for another December release coming this December 16th, 2016. In it's former place, the next installment in the Pirate franchise, Pirates of The Carribean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, is taking it's beginning of the summer slot. In all honesty, Pirates feels a lot more like a summer blockbuster than Star Wars does so I'm glad for the move and a little time might be good to perfect the film that's script made JJ Abrams regret not sitting behind the directors chair for a second film.
The next Star Wars spin off film is moving forward and there's apparently a short of actors who might take on the role of an iconic Star Wars hero. According to Variety, a small handful from the 2500 actors who reportedly auditioned for the role have been selected including Fantastic 4 and Whiplash Star, Miles Teller, Divergent series Ansel Elgort, Dave Franco, Macbeth star Jack Reynor, Scott Eastwood, Logan Lerman, Emory Cohen and Blake Jenner. While the film is just a year from star date, it wouldn't be surprising if we here more names thrown into the mix and others removed before Disney makes their final decision. While it's hard to imagine anyone occupying one of Harrison Ford's most popular roles, Miles Teller or Logan Lerman (the latter of whom was apparently over looked for Marvel's new Spiderman) would be interesting in the role of the young bounty hunter. Disney could always go forward with a lesser known actor all together but until we know for sure, we'll just have to speculate with the names we have now.
You really can't doubt the power of the force! EA's Star Wars: Battlefront was released on multiple platforms less than two months ago but it's already managed to move an incredible about of units. According to Michael Patcher, a Wedbush securities analyst, the game managed to close out the year at 12 million copies sold, 6 million in November and December. This is even a bit more surprising considering Game Stop executive Tony Bartel spoke about the title back in December saying that "we had high expectations that diminished somewhat as it got closer and failed to hit those lower expectations." This lead to a response from the CFO of Gamestop correcting the prior comments as well as the COO of EA Peter Moore who was "surprised" with the comments made, stating that they were indeed on track to pull in their end goal of 13 million units by the end of the fiscal year in March. Fortunately for EA, it looks very likely that they'll get that last 1 million over the next 3 months if not far surpass their original projections but it looks like Star Wars: Battlefront will be a big pay off for the developer.
Monday is quickly approaching and if you're a Starwars fan, it looks like you'll have a lot to be happy about. Aside from the release of the theatrical poster (seen above) for The Force Awakens, it looks like tomorrow we'll be getting a new trailer as well as the first sale of tickets (which are no doubt going to go fast). Make sure you keep an eye out and get ready for what might end up being the biggest opening of the year.

Disney's D23 expo is this weekend and we're getting a lot of great news and one film that's been on the radar for awhile is the Star Wars spin off title, Star Wars: Rogue One, and today we finally have our first official look at the cast. The film has lined up an all star cast including Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Witaker, Jiang Wen, Riz Ahmed and Alan Tudyk. The first of the Star Wars Anthology films was announced last May, to be directed by 2014's Godzilla director, Gareth Edwards and will follow a team of pilots early attempt at destroying the death star prior to the even so of Star Wars: A New Hope. You can see more specifics on the film here and stay tuned for more awesome Star Wars news as the weekend unfolds. Star Wars: Rogue One is set for a December 16th, 2016 release.
The creative genius that, in part, reinvigorated the long running BBC series Doctor Who as well as the award winning series Sherlock, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman is the latest of names in rumors flying around about the future Star Wars films. Jedi news started circulating the rumor that director and writer Steven Moffat might be involved in a possible Star Wars film role. Most likely, given the news of the director for Star Wars episode 8 is Rian Johnson of Looper fame, if Moffat were to step in it could be for the final film of the trilogy or one of the 3 planned stand alone projects that will land between the trilogy release years. Personally speaking, Moffat is one of the best writers and directors currently out and has only made his name a strong presence over the last few years so here's to hoping that this rumor comes turns out to be true.
Long time motion capture character actor and artist Andy Serkis was originally signed on to Avengers: Age of Ultron as a consultant but has now revealed in an interview to Variety, that he will also have a role in the film as well. He also spoke briefly about his role in the next Star Wars film. While we hasn't gone on to name specifically what role he might play, he did drop some hints and spoke a bit more about his motion capture studio, the Imaginarium, as well as his next role in up coming summer film Dawn of the Planet of the Apes July 11th, 2014. Avengers: Age of Ultron will hit theaters May 1st, 2015.
